Kentucky Downs graduate Arklow went west last week and showed his star power in winning the Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar on November 27. The two-time Kentucky Turf Cup (2018,2020) champion enjoyed an excellent stalking trip under jockey Joel Rosario and then exploded in the stretch to earn his second win in three starts since trainer Brad Cox made an equipment change. Hoping to re-focus his runner, Cox added blinkers before the most recent running of the Turf Cup at Kentucky Downs and was rewarded with a resounding win. Traffic troubles in the Breeders’ Cup saw Arklow finish sixth in the Turf on November 7, Knowing their horse was right, the folks at Donegal Racing wanted to run him back so Cox sent him to Del Mar. “Mr. (Jerry) Crawford wanted to run him somewhere so we targeted the Hollywood Turf Cup,” says Cox.  As it turned out, Donegal and Cox made exactly the right call with the trip to the Seaside Oval. This son of Arch has now found the winners circle 8 times in 31 career starts with over $2.6 million in earnings.

Arklow and jockey Joel Rosario win the Grade II, $200,000 Hollywood Turf Cup, Friday, November 27, 2020 at Del Mar Thoroughbred Club, Del Mar CA.
