California Chrome turned in an easy half mile on the Del Mar grass on November 23 in preparation for his final start of the year. Covering the distance in 52 seconds flat without blinkers under jockey Victor Espinosa, Chrome moved quite easily over the Jimmy Durante turf course. With eyes on either the grade 1 Hollywood Derby on turf or the grade 3 Native Diver on the main track, the Kentucky Derby champ will be the seventh winner of the roses to run at Del Mar following a trip to the winner’s circle beneath the twin spires. Using this final start on November 29

as a springboard for a 2015 campaign, Chrome wants to shine once more this year.

“He really seemed to move well over the grass,” says California Chrome owner Steve Coburn. “(trainer) Art (Sherman) says he is looking as ready as he has ever been. We are not sure just yet which race he will start in, we are just taking things one day at a time. That is going to be our strategy for next year. Take things one day at a time and one race at a time. We just want to keep him happy and keep living the dream.”
