Gate to wire wins can be extremely exciting. For those that enjoy them, Brickyard Ride has to be one of your favorites.

Trained by Craig Lewis, this five-year-old California-bred has been predictable throughout his career. When the gates open you better fasten those seat belts because he’s hitting the gas pedal. Brilliant speed on the front end has allowed this son of Clubhouse Ride to show the way on a number of occasions. Coming into the 2022 California Cup Sprint Stakes at Santa Anita as the defending champ there was little doubt about his repeat strategy.

When the bell rang and released the runners it was showtime. Bolting to the lead, Brickyard Ride threw down sizzling numbers for the opening quarter (21.71) and then backed it up with a more than solid half mile time (44.15). Turning for home, jockey Juan Hernandez urged his mount and the Ride responded. Carrying his speed through the wire, Brickyard Ride emphatically defended his Cal Cup Sprint title. Leaving no doubt he was much the best on January 15, another speedy effort netted him his ninth career win from nineteen starts.

With career earnings of over $560,000, Brickyard Ride has provided his team with some nice paydays. And for those of us that love those gate-to-wire runs, HE has been the man !
