Kentucky Downs graduate Dowagiac Chief earned his first Stakes victory with a powerful score in the Black Gold Stakes at The Fair Grounds on March 5. Trained by Tom Amoss, the Chief assumed command early in this mile and a sixteenth tussle over the New Orleans turf and won by an impressive 5 lengths. Having now found the winner’s circle in three of his last five starts, this courageous-running son of Cairo Prince is building towards a big summer. Always a promising-looking colt, Dowagiac Chief has progressed nicely under the watchful eye of Amoss since breaking his maiden at Kentucky Downs back on September 12, 2021.
