Hoppertunity is one of those great stories in the sporting world. A real competitor that runs hard every time, this 5-year old son of Any Given Saturday hopes to become his pappy’s namesake when he starts in the Breeders’ Cup Classic on November 5. Coming into the Classic fresh off the biggest win of his career, the Bob Baffert trained horse hopes to build off his Jockey Club Gold Cup win (Oct 8). “He was due for one of those big runs,” says Baffert of the Gold Cup win. “He’s probably doing as well as he ever has. The race set up well and he didn’t have to chase any real speed.” Likely to be a bit longer on the board with the entrants named California Chrome, Melatonin, and Arrogate all lining up, Hoppertunity has a chance to provide a 7 or 11 here. The great thing about the Cup is they are all good and big prices can yield big payouts. A hot early pace is likely and if a certain closer gets his trip…

“The Gold Cup win gave us a free roll,” says Baffert. “Of course we are going to take it.”
