It’s closing day at Churchill Downs for the 2021 Spring meet and there are seven stakes races on the card…that’s right…we said SEVEN STAKES RACES !!!
Can we hit the lucky seven and pick all of them correctly?…Let’s take a swing …
RACE 5 FLEUR DE LIS
Letruska is the favorite but we like the home town kids and are taking Evoutante. Kenny McPeek trained and Brian Hernandez rides this daughter of Uncle Mo.
RACE 7 WAR CHANT
A very competitve grass race for three-year olds should be a great betting race. I’m taking the Mark Casse trained Helium with hopes he will rise above the competition with the meet’s leading rider Tyler Gafflione
RACE 8 DEBUTANTE
Six furlongs on the dirt for two-year old fillies and perhaps a preview of some 2022 Oaks talent. Norm Casse is a good young trainer and saddles our selection Ontheonesandtwos.
RACE 9 BASHFORD MANOR
Six furlongs on the dirt for two year old boys might give us a look see at a 2022 Derby horse. A deep field has us landing on what would likely be my boy Troy Flippen’s pick…Vodka and Water. Trained by Steve Asmussen and Jose Ortiz rides.
RACE 10 WISE DAN
Turf race named for one of my all-time favorite runners has us landing on a runner we have cashed with before. Somelikeithotbrown is courageous and has plenty of run for trainer Mike Maker
RACE 11 STEPHEN FOSTER
The headliner features some nice runners but the class of the field is Maxfield. We love him here and think his talent will shine through once again.
RACE 12 TEPIN
A turf race for three year old fillies, it is only appropriate that we take a runner that is named for something we appreciate about lovely ladies. Trained by Steve Asmussen and ridden by Tyler Gafflione we like the namesake of my lovely wife…Arm Candy !!!
