Let’s get our Preak on with a rundown of the field with post, morning line, and a thought or two
- WAR OF WILL (4-1)- Has been very impressive at times with a powerful stride and big-time athletic ability. Mark Casse trained colt has the front-running speed to make it happen in this race. Our top selection.
- BOURBON WAR (12-1)-Has displayed a big closing kick at times. Has the talent to be there in the end if the expected front end speed duel breaks out.
- WARRIOR’S CHARGE (12-1)-Brad Cox trainee has picked a heckuva spot for his first Stakes try. Has won two in a row but this water is a lot deeper.
- IMPROBABLE (5-2) Yet to win as a three-year old but has the class, the trainer, and the jockey to get it done. Bob Baffert and Mike Smith look for two in a row at Old Hilltop. Will be right there in the end if not gate to wire.
- OWENDALE (10-1) Another Brad Cox horse that is coming in off a win. This son of Into Mischief has been in Stakes company and won the Lexington last out. May be asking a bit much here.
- MARKET KING (30-1) Trainer D. Wayne Lukas is certainly not scared to run his horses if he thinks they are right. He stole the 2013 Preakness with Oxbow, but that was then and this might not be the Market for this King.
- ALWAYSMINING (8-1) Son of Stay Thirsty that has won six races in a row. Maryland based and local guys have a habit of hitting the board- that makes him worth a play here.
- SIGNALMAN (30-1) Missed the Derby because of qualifying points but has only finished off the board once in seven starts against good company. Should be at the right price for an across the board play and trainer McPeek is good at pulling upsets.
- BODEEXPRESS (20-1) Second in the Florida Derby but winless in his career. His pappy Bodemeister was a speedy son of a gun, but it’s not likely his son gets off the schneid here.
- EVERFAST (50-1)-Trainer Dale Romans understands two things…they are only three once and you can’t win if you ain’t in. This is what you call taking a shot for sure but hey….
- LAUGHING FOX (20-1)-Saddled by two-time Preakness winner Steve Asmussen and has won 3 of 5 starts this year, just not against this kind of company.
- ANOTHERTWISTAFATE (6-1)- Finished first or second in five of six starts. Won the El Camino Real Derby and will likely go off at a much better price. Son of Scat Daddy is worthy of across the board consideration.
- WIN WIN WIN (15-1) Ninth place finish in the Derby was first time he was off the board in seven career starts. Maryland based and has a nice kick at the end. Can be there for the exotic plays.
