Kentucky Derby contender Texas Red has hit a little bump in the road of late with a hoof problem. No, it’s not a fungal case of athlete’s feet, even though he is one heck of an athlete, but rather an abscess. Followers of the 2014 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile winner  shouldn’t get too worked up as this son of Afleet Alex is now in recovery mode. According to trainer Keith Desormeaux, Texas Red will enjoy some time in the pool and work on the treadmill for the next couple of weeks. If everything goes according to plan, he could be back on the track for training come first of March. With a closing kick as big as his namesake, Texas Red and his team still has the Kentucky Derby in their sites. Where he will prep for the first Saturday in May has yet to be determined.
