Despite delays, rescheduling, and many other obstacles, Bob Baffert was able to equal the record for most wins in the Kentucky Derby in 2020. Ben Jones blanketed a three year old with roses six times between 1938 and 1952 with two triple crown winners (Whirlaway, Citation). Baffert’s six wins stretch from his first in 1997 (Silver Charm) to his latest with Authentic this year. The hall of famer also has two Triple Crown winners to his credit (American Pharaoh, Justify). The California based conditioner will begin his quest for sole possession of the Derby wins record in January when he sends out the highly regarded Life Is Good in the Sham Stakes. Run at one mile over the Santa Anita dirt, this grade 3 race will be run on the second day of 2021. Life Is Good has only one start to his credit, but this son of red-hot sire Into Mischief was ultra impressive in wining a 6 1/2 furlong race at Del Mar on November 22. In his first start, Life Is Good lead at every call and won by 9 1/2 lengths. Obviously Baffert has a great eye for talent and currently deems this horse as “the real deal”. Of course we all understand it is still a long time until the first Saturday in May, but it is never too early to start dreaming of the Derby!!!
