TEXAS RED LOOKING FOR BIG RETURN

American Pharoah’s trip down the Triple Crown trail has been perhaps a bit easier as one of his bigger rivals as a juvenile has not been there. But the Pharoah should be wary as a challenge as big as Texas is coming soon.

Texas Red exited 2014 with a huge run in winning the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. Utterly destroying a solid field that featured the likes of Carpe Diem, Upstart, and Daredevil, this son of Afleet Alex was ultra-impressive. But then injury struck and Red had to be put on the shelf.

With diligent work and careful planning, Texas Red is very near his comeback race. With the three-year old series at Saratoga in their sights, trainer Keith Desormeaux and his team have a plan laid out. A four race schedule is currently in the works beginning with the Dwyer and culminating in the Breeders’ Cup Classic. Sandwiched in between would be starts in the Jim Dandy and Travers Stakes.

According to the Texas Red team, their colt is doing quite well and looks forward to meeting American Pharoah sometime after the Triple Crown. He will work at Santa Anita and then ship eastward when the time comes.
