Why is the six-year old Vyjack making his first Breeders’ Cup start in the 2016 Dirt Mile on November 4?…Probably …because he can! A rejuvenated runner under the care of current conditioner Phil D’Amato, this son of Into Mischief appears primed to shake up the world. A roller coaster career that has seen this striking gelding win his first four races including the Jerome and Gotham Stakes at Aqueduct has also saw him go just over two years between wins. His last start (Oct. 8, 2016) featured an impressive stretch run that saw Vyjack powerfully finish in front in the grade 2 City of Hope Mile over the Santa Anita turf. “We used that race to prep him for the Cup,” says D’Amato, who has won both the 2015-16 winter and 2016 spring meet training titles at Santa Anita. “He has just sort of gelled since coming to me and he looks to have plenty still in his tank. We know that last race was on turf, but this guy is a jack of all trades and we think he is ready for a big run on the dirt.” (photo by NYRA)   vyjack-2014
