We understand it is only early January, but the road to the 2019 Kentucky has a major player on the path to the first Friday in May. The 7 furlong Santa Ynez Stakes at Santa Anita run January 6 was nothing short of a showcase for Bellafina. Earning a 104 beyer speed figure for her 8 1/2 length romp to pay dirt, this daughter of Quality Road made everyone forget about her fourth place finish in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies race on November 2. Picking up her fourth win in six career starts for trainer Simon Callaghan, Bellafina picked up 10 qualifying points for the Oaks and is now tied for second with Restless Rider on that list behind Jaywalk (30).

Kaleem Shah’s Bellafina and jockey Flavien Prat win the Grade II, $200,000 Santa Ynez Stakes, Sunday, January 6, 2019 at Santa Anita Park, Arcadia CA.
