The December 16 King Glorious Stakes at Los Alamitos may have given us a glimpse of another West coast Kentucky Derby contender. Galilean was very impressive in navigating his away around the track a widening nine lengths ahead of the competition in this two-turn mile race for California-bred two-year olds. Trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, this son of Uncle Mo covered the distance in 1:35.06 under jockey Flavian Prat.

“He was challenged early and responded,” says Hollendorfer. “He drew away at the finish and has the look of a really nice colt. We are going to take things one step at a time right now. There is another race for Cal-breds at Santa Anita next month and we will see how he does there.”

The win was the second in three carer starts for Galilean along with a second place finish. For those scoring at home the last California-bred to win the Kentucky Derby was California Chrome in 2014, and yes he too won the King Glorious.

“We have got plenty of time to see where he is at,” cautiously quips the hall of fame Hollendorfer. “The Kentucky Derby is a long way off right now.”
