KENTUCKY DOWNS LANDS BREEDERS’ CUP QUALIFIER

Good just keeps getting better when it comes to Kentucky Downs. The all-turf Thoroughbred track just north of the state line just landed a Breeders’ Cup win and your in race for the 2019 event. The Kentucky Downs Turf Sprint will be part of a blockbuster card on September 7 and provide the winner with a fees paid berth in the $1 million Breeders Cup Turf Sprint at Santa Anita on November 2. The race that is run within rock-throwin’ distance of Nashville will likely draw some of the division’s heavy hitters as the Franklin, Kentucky course is European style and offers some similarities to the downhill turf course at Santa Anita. And the $700,000 purse is of course a nice accouterment as well.

“This is some really exciting news,” says two-time defending Turf Sprint champion trainer Peter Miller. “We love Kentucky Downs. It’s a great place with a wonderful racing atmosphere and the great purses are a bonus too. We certainly hope to be there on September 7.”

Based in California, Miller has guided Stormy Liberal to back-to-back wins in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. With five Stakes races on the card, Miller will not be the only top player migrating to Kentucky Downs. That is a safe bet for sure.
