KENTUCKY OAKS PICKS AND PANS

Like we touched upon on the front page, girls really rule the world. Because of that very fact, we are going to offer a little preview and a few thoughts on the 145th running of the most famous race for three-year old fillies. The Kentucky Oaks is slated for May 3 and looks to have plenty of lookers among the entrants. The favorite will likely be a horse based on the West coast, but as we are all aware, in a race like this, ANYTHING can happen. Here are a few thoughts on some fillies running for that blanket of lilies.

BELLAFINA-The likely favorite that is battle tested and coming in on 3 race win streak. Simon Callaghan trained and a daughter of Quality Road, she’s sensational.

CHAMPAGNE ANYONE-Daughter of Street Sense is rapidly improving filly for trainer Ian Wilkes. Her Gulfstream Park Oaks popped the cork.

JELTRIN-Davona Dale Stakes winner has not raced since March 2 and was a 50-1 shot in that one. She has run at Gulfstream Park in all 6 starts.

FLOR DE LA MAR-Bob Baffert trained filly is lightly raced with only three career starts and did not run as a two-year old. Finished second in Santa Anita Oaks.

LADY APPLE-Daughter of Curlin is 3 for 3 this year including a nice score in Fantasy Stakes at Oaklawn Park. Trained by Steve Asmussen, she’s coming in hot.

OUT FOR A SPIN-Trainer Dallas Stewart won in 2006 with longest shot Lemons Forever. The Spin won the Ashland in her last start at 52-1. Hmmmmmmm.

MOTION EMOTION-Fast front-runner likes to get out and go. She got caught in each of her last two starts and finished a close second in Honeybee and Fantasy Stakes.

RESTLESS RIDER-Three wins and four seconds in seven lifetime starts means she is always right there. Two wins were at Churchill Downs.

STREET BAND-Two wins in three starts this year including a victory in the Fair Grounds Oaks means the Larry Jones trainee has found herself.

SERENGETI EMPRESS-If she runs, this Tom Amoss trained filly can be very dangerous. A win at Churchill is part of seven starts at five different tracks.

LIORA- Does two wins at Churchill as a two-year old mean anything here? Wayne Catalano trained daughter of Candy Ride has been second in last two starts.

POSITIVE SPIRIT-Six starts at five different tracks and five times in the money. She has not won this year for trainer Rodolphe Brissett.

JAYWALK- Juvenile Filly champ has been less than stellar in two disappointing starts this year. She is talented but….

CHOCOLATE KISSES-Honeybee Stakes winner has a big closing kick. If the front end speed duel materializes this daughter of Candy Ride could be sweet in the e
